Kaitlynn's school had their end of the year awards ceremony on the last full day of school. The day before the ceremony I received a phone call from Kaitlynn's librarian. She called to let me know that Kaitlynn had the most accelerated reader points in the sixth grade and she would be recognized and awarded at the ceremony the next day. I told Trey but not Kaitlynn about the call. Trey and I made plans to be there.

The next morning at the ceremony lots of eighth graders were recognized for various awards. Then they got to the sixth grade. The students in the sixth grade with the top ten academic averages were recognized and called to the stage to receive a certificate. The teacher handing out the awards made a point of saying that the names were not called in any particular order. I thought that was a little odd... If they are going to announce the top ten averages it seemed like they would call them out in order. Kaitlynn's name was called out. She was one of the top ten in the 6th grade!

The next award was for the one student who had the highest grade point average in the 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade. Ah, well that's why they didn't call out the top 10 in order! Kaitlynn's name was called for the highest academic average in the entire 6th grade!!! Go Kaitlynn! The award is called the Gloria Henderson Top Academic Average Award. Kaitlynn's name will go on a plaque that hangs in the school. Trey and I are very proud of her!
Kaitlynn was also awarded the Jaynee Holland Top Accelerated Reader Award for the 6th grade for having the most accelerated reader points. Her name will go on a plaque that hangs outside of the school library for that award. She received a gift certificate to Books a Million with that award. :)
Trey and I are so proud of her! Everyone knows Kaitlynn is an athlete but not everyone realizes that she is also a great student. I really don't brag on her academic success enough. Kaitlynn is a very goal oriented child and strives for the best in everything she does.
I'm still amazed at all she accomplished this year. In her first year as a middle schooler Kaitlynn tried out and made three sports teams, completed the sixth grade with the highest academic average, and earned the most accelerated reader points in the sixth grade. All of this in a year that she was diagnosed with mono and then pneumonia. Go Kaitlynn go!
