Kynsee's One Month Check-Up
Kynsee went in for her one month check-up on Wednesday. She weighed in at 9lbs 12oz and is 22 1/2 inches long. I'm actually surprised that she has gained almost two lbs since she was born because of how bad the vomiting has become. Kynsee has started projectile vomiting over the last two weeks. She does this 10+ times a day, she will even do it in her sleep. It's scary watching her gag on it. Kynsee was lying on the examine table when I was telling the medical student/intern about it and there she went. When our doctor came in and started examining her she did it again. Out the nose and the mouth and hit the doctor in the chest. She sent us to the hospital to have an upper GI done. Kynsee had to drink a bottle of barium and have some x-rays taken. This test showed that she definitely has reflux as well as a large pylorus muscle. Her doctor prescribed Zantac for the reflux and scheduled an abdominal ultrasound at Children's Hospital in Knoxville on Friday.
We had the abdominal ultrasound done yesterday and thankfully we are now able to rule out Pyloric Stenosis. The only cure for that is surgery. Kynsee's doctor told me yesterday morning before the test to be prepared to stay the night in Knoxville because if the ultrasound showed that she had that they would not release her but instead send her into surgery that night. So glad my one month old doesn't have to have surgery!
We are continuing to treat her with Zantac and she started rice cereal last night. She sleeps on a wedge pillow now. Laying her flat on her back even if it is only for a quick diaper change causes her to vomit. If she continues to get worse or we don't see any improvement in the next few days she may have another test done. Really hoping the current treatment works even though I do not like that she is on daily medication.
